This weekend, Sue Mercer will take on the Bath Half Marathon, running 13.1 miles through the city to raise funds for ReMind UK.
Sue is no stranger to the Bath Half. Last year she helped coach runners who were raising money for ReMind UK, organising training runs and supporting them along the way. She even ran the race herself, though, as she jokes, “that was their job to do the fundraising!”
This year is different.
Sue is once again supporting the runners who are fundraising for ReMind UK with training sessions, but she has also decided to raise money herself, for a deeply personal reason.
“My mum was a dementia sufferer for many years and sadly lost her battle with this dreadful illness on 21 January 2026,” Sue explains. “It’s all very real and very recent for me.”
Although Sue says that running a half marathon is something she regularly does, this year’s race will be particularly emotional. The Bath Half falls on Mother’s Day, making the moment even more poignant.
“I’m sure I’ll be crying for most of the 13.1 miles,” she says.
Running has long been an important part of Sue’s life and a source of strength during difficult times.
Running really is my solace and the running community is priceless.
